In early June our team had a two day stay at Little Cayman Island resort whilst waiting for the weather to improve enough for me to commence my Little to Grand Cayman Island swim. Many people staying at the resort were very curious about this large group of people all wearing Flowers Bridging the Cayman Islands swim crew shirts and wanted to know what the buzz was about. It didn’t take long for the word to get around and everyone in the resort to know about my upcoming swim, it was a strange mix of holiday makers and divers and about forty people sitting on a razors edge waiting for a big event to unfold.
Since the crew knew they had at least a 48 hour postponement a few of them decided to enjoy themselves a little and booked themselves onto a dive trip, there they mixed further with the holiday divers, (I naturally opted to stay at the resort and rest, I knew I’d be spending plenty of time in the salt water soon enough).
Whilst on that dive trip Chris chatted with a man named David, David was flying home the same morning I was expected to commence my Little to Grand Cayman Island swim, after my swim David sent us this email and photo taken on his flight home from 6000ft. Now that is very cool, thank you David this is a very special picture!
Hello Chris and Penny:
Congratulations on bridging the Cayman Islands! I enjoyed talking to you while we were at the Little Cayman Resort (I chatted with Chris on the dive boat, and I briefly talked to Penny in the hot tub the evening before the swim).
We took off to fly home to the USA about 6 hours after you started your swim. I watched the navigation computer on the airplane estimating that you would be right below us around 20km into the flight. Sure enough, right when the NAV said 20km, we looked down and saw you. Below is the picture from 6,000 feet in the air! I think I can just make out Penny swimming between the kayak and the rubber boat. It was very exciting to see that you were right on target and schedule.
