The weather we watch..will Chris swim next Thursday or Friday?

Friday, April 16th, 2010

With our last day at work completed and just three sleeps before we board our plane to Hawaii our eyes are fixed on the long term weather forecast.

Chris will be ready to swim a day or so after we arrive on Monday morning, my swim won’t take place until Forrest arrives from Los Angeles on Friday the 23rd.

The weather forecast is looking good for Chris to swim possibly next Wednesday into Thursday or Thursday into Friday. Chris’ crew Quinn Carver and Kathryn Costello are ready for the flight to Molokai Island to assist Chris on his swim back Oahu.

Penny has set her feeding plan for her Kaieiewaha Channel swim.

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

My feed plan below is an eight hour plan which will be rotated until I reach Kauai Island.

I wanted to set a plan that’s easy to follow for my crew, something that can be picked up at any time and they’ll know exactly where they’re up to. …Change of shift at 2am no problem just keep ticking off the boxes.

The global open water swimminjg conference is being held at Long Beach California, June 2010.

This is a not to be missed event, if you can make it there I’m sure it will be sensational.

Long Beach California Long Beach, California.

The open water forum and championships being held at Long Beach, California look sensational, I’m sure it’ll be a huge success and leap forward for open water swimming at all levels.

It’s very exciting to be a part of this growing, fun and challenging sport with so many positive and supportive people.

How do you know when you have a committed crew?

International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

Steven Munatones brings us an update on May 9th’s upcoming inductions at the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in Florida.

I’m very excited about  going to the inductions after our swims in Hawaii, in fact we delayed the Hawaii trip by three weeks in order to travel on to Florida from Hawaii.

After checking the Oahu weather forecast last night I’m quite happy we did put it off a little since the forecast for the next six days in 30-40 kilometers per hour winds!

As the discussions with boat captains and crew continue the packing here in Townsville has well and truly begun.

Packing to swim a marathon is not like packing for a holiday or as most people would think throw in a swim cap, goggles and swim suit.

Oh yes, we need those basics, caps, goggles and swim suits plus plenty of spares, clear goggles for swimming at night and tinted for swimming in the full sun of the day, plus a few spares.

There’s also three shark shields, lots of carbohydrate powders…. actually enough to provide energy for 40 or so hours of none stop swimming! We must bring our own, we can’t risk trying something new on the big day.

We have drink bottles attached to ropes, light sticks for night swimming, sign boards for messages during the swim as well as marker pens, grease for chafing, sunscreens all tried and tested the list goes on….

This feels like a good time to thank our product sponsors Shark Shield for the use of their Shark Shields for this little adventure and Endura for providing us with our carbohydrate powder requirements.

swim gear for Hawaii

With a bag limit of one and serious weight restrictions on the airline we’re flying with the question now is where am I going to fit my clothes, sweats and towels? I think I need to find an excess baggage sponsor!
